SOS

This statue caught my eye in Mendocino, California. It was sitting outside an art studio on the grass and it appeared the artist was still working on it. The elderly woman's face was to me the most interesting and real. Someone had also place a small yellow flower between her fingers and I thought that was a nice touch.

I discovered this large spider and web on the patio this afternoon. There were also around five other webs all with spiders of this kind on the patio, sitting and waiting for some unsuspecting insect that would become their next meal. I am working on my arachanophobia as I don't want to pass on my fear of spiders to my daughters. My husband also picks up spiders and shows them to my daughters in an attempt to make them comfortable with them.

Rust

A reddish brown tinge to metal that has been exposed to water or vapour. Who has rust?

It is interesting how I drove by this dilapidated metal factory for a couple years but hadn't really "seen" it. The building has broken windows, no doors, a rusty roof and one would think it was abandoned. That is not the case. People actually work in this place. I think they fabricate metal beams. The other interesting piece is the large ball chained on top of a concrete pedestal. Even while photographing it I didn't realize there was an engraving below. I had to do a close up on the photo to read what it says. Not only is the history a little strange but that someone would create it into a monument of sorts struck me as very curious. All but the two bottom lines are legible. Here is majority of the inscription:

This ball is erected here as it resembles
bowling in a Paul Bunyan way.
This famous land clearing ball developed
by C. L. "Red" Wilson was used for knocking
down 16,000 acres of timber on the
Hungry Horse Reservation in Montana and
many more acres in other parts of
the United States and Canada

Another view of the building behind the ball.

Hold

To carry and bear weight or load. What are you holding?

This is my husband holding a sea cucumber. He pulled it out of the touch tank so our girls could touch it and look closer. While in the water this creature looked all spiky but once pulled out of the water it turned all soft and the spikes seemed to meld back into itself. Such an amazing transformation.

Pipe

A tube of material in which to feed liquid or air. Have you got a fine set of pipes? (he he heeeee)

The faucet is attached to the pipe which isn't completely visible in this photo but I figured this was a little more interesting to look at than one of my rusty old pipes.
