SOS

Following on from Suzy's winter inspiration last week: winter can give us some delicious sunsets!

We went to the park this morning and on one of the climbing toys the indentations for footholds had frozen blocks of ice in them. Some contained bark and a couple had leaves. I loved the effect of this particular leaf frozen in the ice.

Decoration

An object with which to adorn. Show us a decoration in your space today.

My husband's grandma had a tradition of making candy houses. When he was 7 years old she passed on the tradition to him and his mom. This year he decided to brave asking our two year old twin daughters to help decorate. It was a highly amusing event. They had a grand time but it was a bit daunting to control their quick little hands go crazy with the candy. In the end between the four of us we managed to put together a very cute little scene.

There is a gecko exhibit in town. What amazing creatures. Some of the display materials were really cool too. See the lighted eye display below. They also had three other collages that featured skin, tails and feet.

English

Stiff upper lips and bad weather - show us something typically English in your space today.

Very tacky socks I bought in 1987 when I was 18 and visiting London for the first time. Of course 21 years later I still have them so I'm not sure what that says about me???

And I wanted to share this....

This is a funny and enjoyable novel I read a little while ago. The adoption organization I work for brought the author, Alison Larkin, out this last weekend to do a show as she is an adoptee who was born in Washington DC, but was immediately adopted by a British couple. She was raised in Great Britain and lived in Africa for several years with her family. As an adult she learned that her biological parents were from the American South. At one point in her comedy act she states in her crisp British accent how she learned she is really a redneck. It was such a pleasure to see her perform live and meet her in person.

This is a photo I took while in Hilo on the Big Island of Hawaii. We were in the middle of a torrential downpour, mind you it wasn't really cold though, and I spotted this little group trouping along carrying giant leaves as makeshift umbrellas.
