Or how about something that send chills up your spine like a chilling tale? This one is even described as chilling on the cover.

Balance

An even distribution of weight enabling someone or something to remain upright and steady or creating stability in your own mind. Find balance in your space today.

I started off with balancing an egg on a spoon this morning. Later I saw someone riding a bike and thought about snapping that. But then I recalled having seen a new sculpture here in town. As it isn't too far from where I work I ran over during my lunch hour to snap some photos. Happy to have found something a little different for today's word. Especially after being so awed by Anita's incredible photo.

This is a favorite photo of mine. Such a sweet moment as my husband was reading Dr. Seuss to our girls.

Book

Bounded collection of pages or to determine a reservation - give us books!

We are a family of readers. Our (almost) 2 year old twins already love books too. This was a difficult one as we have baskets of children's books in about every room of the house and our own library of books and the stacks of books sitting on our nightstands. I took a number of photos this morning before I decided to focus on one book in particular. This was a recent purchase. I might not have bought it but it was included in a clearance sale and I couldn't pass it up.

This book not only has the most gorgeous artistic renditions of birds from around the world, it also includes a little sound play box and you can hear the songs and calls of every bird featured in the book. There are birds in this book that I would never see or hear in my lifetime. Our girls think this book is very interesting but I have to admit I monopolize it more than they do.

Here are a couple of samples of the beautiful artwork you find in the book.

Blanket

Fabric sheeting to cover, warm and disguise. We all have blankets - which is your favourite?

This is a favorite blanket because of the cool design on it.

This is a new favorite. This blanket is going to be a gift to the girls for their birthday in May. It is very soft. It came as a craft kit and I had to tie the fun fringe myself.

These photos are from the Big Island of Hawaii. We visited the Volcanic National Park in June of 2003. The first photo shows how a lava flow from April of that same year took out part of the parks road. After hiking about two miles out we finally reached the active lava flow. My husband had been the one excited to make this particular part of the trip. Once I was out there though it really was amazing and fascinating to be standing right next to lava. In fact as the sun began to go down I really started to notice how there were tiny fissures under some of the stone we were standing on and you could see the orange glow underneath us. Yes, there was lava flowing right below us. After the sun goes down you truly begin to see just how many hot spots there out there as there were glowing orange spots all over the place.

I couldn't decide which to post so I posted both. I left early for work today so I could stop and take these photographs. I knew just the place to try and find a "flood" photo. Just love that early morning light.

Ticket

A piece of paper or card that give the holder a certain right, usually to enter a place. Show us a 'ticket' in your space today.

These are some tickets I saved from my last trip overseas in 1999. Tickets are usually just little slips of paper. Yet it is amazing what memories they can conjure up - another time and place.

Cheat alert since I didn't actually take these photos. I am the person you see in the first photo just about to jump out of a plane though. In the one below I am the one without the mustache with the really big smile. I made my jump on December 20th a number of years ago. It was a clear and beautiful day but very brisk. I remember how cold my mouth felt from the cold air. But I still couldn't keep from smiling. I was flying!

This last photo is after the parachute had been opened. It is an amazing experience to soar above the ground in this fashion.

Badge

Insignia to advertise, show membership of or make a statement with. Have you got a badge?

This is my traveling backpack. During my travels I would try to buy a patch from each country I visited and sometimes a patch of a particular region or city if it held a particular significance to me and then sew it onto my pack. Wonder when I'll get the chance to add a new patch to it. It might be awhile.

We came across this gathering of Tipis in Colorado a few years ago. It was so picturesque and kind of made you feel as if you had traveled back in time. I did a little research later on and discovered there is a company called Earthworks based in Colorado that builds and sells tipis and yurts. They are amazing structures and can be a lot more plush inside than you would ever imagine. Click here if you would like more information. They also include some stunning photographs of their own.
