Today Martin Luther King was celebrated in the USA. I participated in a community prayer circle and then a march to the local Martin Luther King Center. The image above is a wonderful mural that is painted on an outdoor wall at the center. Included on the mural are Dr. King's Six Principles of Non-Violence. A few have been abbreviated. The full version are as follows:

1. Nonviolence is a way of life for courageous people.

2. Nonviolence is an effort to achieve a reconciled world by raising the level of relationships among all people to a height where justice prevails and persons attain full human potential.

3. Nonviolence attacks forces of evil and acts of evil, but never persons as evil. Nonviolence believes in the ultimate good of every person and seeks reconciliation.

4. Nonviolence accepts suffering without retaliation for its moral power toward achieving a goal.

5. Nonviolence avoids internal violence of the spirit as well as external physical violence.

6. Nonviolence believes that the moral arc of the universe bends toward justice.

"Nonviolence is absolute commitment to the way of love.
Love is not emotional bash; it is not empty sentimentalism.
It is the active outpouring of one's whole being into the being of another."
Martin Luther King, Jr. 1957

Old

Made, built or having lived for a long time. Show us something old in your space.

This is an old marriage certificate from my husband's paternal side of the family. It dates back to 1884.

Both of us have been doing some geneology research. A good free web site is www.familysearch.org My most successful tracking is from my mom's maternal side of the family. I began by tracking back from my great grandma Ida born in 1901, who was the 10th of 16 children. Her mother married at age 16 and had her first child at age 17 and her last child at age 44. My great grandma was born in Joseph, Sevier, Utah but her parents were both born in England. It appears both her mother Sarah Briggs born in 1868 in Accrington, Lancaster, England and her father William Roberts born in 1863 in Dorzington, Worstershire. England traveled over to the United States with their parents somewhere between the years of 1868 and 1883. It is fascinating to read through the list of names that makes up my ancestors and travel back through time. The furthest back I got was to a relative born about 1551 in Bolton-By Bollan, Yorks, England. Some of the family names as I travel back were Roberts, Ross, Briggs, Fielding, Howarth, Parkinson, Holden, Page, Quiney, Tolly, Dugdale, Lee, Dorrell, Wilson, Willson, Atkinson, Read, Battersby, Battersbie, Peele, Agnes, Hirde, and Baxter.
